Homicide Offences

Homicide is a term that encompasses crimes that result in harm to an individual and fall under the classification of Offences Against The Person and Reputation. These crimes include murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, and infanticide. A conviction for these offences can result in severe consequences.

Attempted Murder

The act of trying to carry out a plan of murder. The intention to take a life is enough for charges to be laid.

First-Degree Murder

A killing that is planned and deliberate, such as a contract killing.

Homicide

Can be culpable or non-culpable and includes infanticide, manslaughter, and first and second-degree murders.

Infanticide

A law that is specific to women. When a mother causes the death of her newborn child by a wilful act or omission.

Manslaughter

Committing an unlawful act that causes the death of another person. The homicide is not planned, and there is no intent to kill.

Second-Degree Murder

A deliberate killing that occurs without planning, like the intent to cause bodily harm, knowing it would likely result in death.
